You can do almost everything with the permissions feature of your gallery. Lets say you want to show your gallery only to a friend of yours but you don’t want to set a password. You also want another friend to be able to add photos to your albums, but you don’t want him to be able to delete them. At the end you want only registered users to add comments to my photos/albums.
- All this you can achieve with the gallery permissions system.
- If you want to apply permissions (allow/deny access) to a specific group just type the first letters of the group and the browser will fill up the rest for you.
Predefined Groups are: Everybody - This includes everyone, even visitors of your site that are not logged in. All guests and logged in users have all permissions that are assigned to the 'Everybody' group. Registered Users - All users but the guest user are automatically a member of this group. As soon as you are logged in, you have all permissions a registered user has plus the permissions that are assigned to the 'Everybody' group. Site Administrators - Members of this group have full access to any album and to the Site Admin area. By default, only the predefined 'admin' user is a member of this group. - Remember that all permissions assigned to the Everybody group are automatically assigned to all registered users as well.
If you want to apply permissions to a specific user, let's say a friend of yours just type his user name and apply the desired permission rules. - Three examples for applying rules to a group or user :
- 1. Say you want to make your Gallery completely private such that all visitors have to login first before they can see any photo album of yours.
• Remove the [core] View All Versions from the 'Everybody' group and Add the [core] View All Versions to the 'Registered Users' group. 2. Say you want to allow all 'Registered Users' to create albums and to upload items (e.g. photos). (not recommended) • Add the [core] Add sub-album and the [core] Add sub-item permissions to the 'Registered Users' group 3. Say you want to make your Gallery completely private and only Mike (a family member) can see your photo albums. • Remove the [core] View All Versions from the 'Everybody' group and Add the [core] View All Versions to Mike. The Picasa upload is intended for uploading groups of photos. To export from Picasa you select the photos you want to upload and click on "Make a Webpage" (or you choose "Folder/Export as Webpage or even ctrl-w)" from the menu), from there you select the sizes, and the export folder location. In the next window you need to choose "XML Code", and off it goes. Then you navigate to the folder you just chose and create a zip file of the xml file and the images and thumbnails folders. In Global Photo Diary navigate to the folder you want to upload to and click on add item. Choose the Picasa upload and browse to the zip file you created and upload this. It will create a sub folder with the same name as the zip file. To show your photos in a google map is easy and fast. Just enter the coordinates when you add a new photo or edit an existing one.
